The National Association of Realtors and other industry groups again are pressing U.S. lawmakers to extend the home buyer tax credit. Legislators have done so twice, but realty practitioners say the housing market is still fragile and the incentive is a sorely needed shot in the arm. They are stressing to elected officials that this is an election year for many and that a series of other market supports are already in the process of being eliminated. Finally, NAR and other industry groups argue that the credit should be renewed because banks are taking too long to approve short sales.

Rates are likely to climb. The time to buy is now!

Federal Reserve Bank of New York President William Dudley says the central bank will scale back its purchases of mortgage-backed securities late next month; and while interest rates likely will climb when the program ceases, the extent of the rise remains to be seen. Dudley says the Fed will act if rates spike too much. Still, analysts worry that the end of the MBS purchase program and expiration of the home-buyer tax credit, along with higher premiums and tighter underwriting of FHA mortgages, will work together to stifle home sales and price stabilization in the coming months.

Home Buyer Tax Credit deadline.

While the speculation of the Government extending the Home buyer Tax Credit yet again is really only that, speculation, it makes a lot of people think. Currently it is one of the only 'stimulus' options for the working class. It is a great motivator for Home Buyers who are on the fence, and it is actually doing something positive for the economy. So why wouldn't we see another extension? Don't ask me, we are talking about the Federal Government here!
